Best way to smooth out mono to braid FG knot
I'm getting into surf fishing, mostly interested in sharks. I've caught plenty of 2-3 foot ones on the jetty but I'm after something bigger now. can't land a big shark on the jetty, at least I can't. so I've moved to the beach.
So I have the Penn Pursuit IV 8000 and I'm using 65 pound braid with a 400 pound mono rubbing leader(I guess that's the term) and yeah I have a metal leader on the end of that.
problem is it's getting hung up on the guides both when reeling it in and I can hear/feel it on its way out as well. it's not much, about 5 feet but too long for me to cast without reeling in the end of the mono past the first and second guide. my actual knot is good, it's barely any bigger than the mono itself. but 400 mono is pretty thick so I'm looking for a way to smooth out the transition.
