38F and worried about my fertility. Just had my gynecological ultrasound a month after my blood work indicated concerns.
I (38F) wanted to conduct tests on my fertility due to my irregular periods (starting last November) and due to my age. It began with getting my blood examined.
Notes:
- AMH was <0.0700 pmol/L
- FSH was 39.4 U/l (though it’s important to note that the test was conducted when I was not on my period)
- Vitamin D was on the low end of the optimal range
- Iron is borderline low.
Had my gynecological ultrasound done today. Only area of concern was my ovaries which corresponded to my AMH results. I’m very concerned to say the least, but I’ll have further tests in two months - that includes a repeat of my blood work.
My periods may have been altered towards the end of the year as my BFP dropped to 14.5% last October (due to working out and stress), I’ve now brought that up 18.7% to try and help regulate my hormones. Again, stress may be a contributing factor - my job can be demanding, I also lost a family member last month. I was a victim of sexual assault back in December too.
I write here because this has come as a real shock to me. I don’t smoke. I only drink socially (a few times a year). My body is excellent physical shape but I could eat better in terms of nutrition.
Is all hope lost when it comes to me conceiving and birthing my own child without medical intervention? I know there are options, but I feel numb and alone right now. I’m not sure how to feel. Part of me wants to bawl my eyes out but I’m holding it together.
Has anyone else been a similar situation? If so, did you feel?
My next appointment is in 2 months. In the meantime I’ll eat nutritious meals to get vitamin D and iron to optimal range, continue to stay active and monitor stress levels. I really need to feel comfortable and be healthy right now. I may also cut alcohol from my diet altogether.
I really hope things aren’t as bad as they indicate as it’s been my dream to be a mom to my own biological child. The thought that this possibly won’t be an option is very upsetting.
