Solo backpacking for 2 to 4 weeks in June… Colombia or Europe? Can’t decide
Looking for some honest opinions.
I’m 23M from the US and have a few weeks of downtime from work. Planning on solo backpacking for 2 to 4 weeks in June. Adventure and meeting people are the priorities. I’ve been going back and forth between:
Colombia: Medellín, Lost City Trek, Tayrona, Cartagena. Have a roundtrip flight sitting in front of me and the itinerary is basically planned. My main concern is whether the social scene is actually good for meeting other young international travelers.
Europe: Balkans or Portugal. Seems better for meeting people but flights are way more expensive and so is everything else overall.
For context I’m into hiking and adventure, solo traveled in Peru and Chile before so I’m not new to this. The social side matters a lot to me though. Not looking for a party trip exactly, more just meeting people my age and having a good time.
Anyone done both? Is the Colombia backpacker scene as good as people say for meeting young travelers or should I just bite the bullet and do Europe?
