Building an app for people outside
Hey all -
I’m a designer based out of Seattle who spends a lot of time hiking/fishing/backpacking, and I’ve been working on a small app called TrailState.
The idea came from noticing that a lot of outdoor accidents don’t come from crazy conditions, they come from people pushing too far when they’re dehydrated, low on energy, or just mentally off.
The app tracks things like hydration, fuel, and what I’m calling “clarity” (basically how sharp your decision-making should be based on effort + time), and gives you nudges before things start to go sideways.
It’s still early, but I’ve got a working TestFlight build and I’d love to get a few people who actually spend time outside to try it and give honest feedback.
Not selling anything, not planning on charging for the app, just trying to build something genuinely useful to people who love to spend time outside.
If you’re into hiking, trail running, long days outside, etc and want to check it out, I can send over a TestFlight link.
Would also just love thoughts on the idea in general.
