Am I the problem?

It’s been about a year now that I’ve been getting to know this coworker, and I’ve been nothing but nice to her. She’s married, by the way. A little while ago, she asked for my number because she wanted to talk to me. She’s tried to invite me out to bars and events, but I keep telling her no.

From what I’ve heard and experienced, her husband isn’t that great of a guy. One time she was just asking me a question when he came in to bring her lunch, and he apparently got mad that she was talking to me. Now, whenever he comes in from time to time, he stares at me while I’m doing my job.

She’s told me that he’s done things to her that she wishes she could tell me about, but she says it’s too much and that she doesn’t want me to worry or feel bad for her. When she told me that, she said she’s just trying to stay strong and sane and wants to be happy.

She has told me she cares about me and my well-being, but I’m not sure what that means. She gets me things and talks about me to other coworkers, and when I mention I’m doing something, she says she wishes she could come.

Recently, she got emotional with me and told me something she said she hasn’t told anyone—not even her parents. Later on, I went in to do some shopping, saw her, and said hello, and out of nowhere she gave me a hug, which she hadn’t done before. Now, whenever I see her, she hugs me hello and goodbye.

I talked to another coworker about this and told her that someone might be having an emotional affair with me. I showed her a couple of things and explained what was going on, and she told me I was the problem because I’m too nice to her. She said that the reason she’s latching onto me is because she doesn’t get that type of attention at home. She told me to just block her number and stop talking to her.

Conflicted on what I should do
