Unpopular opinion - stop villainizing parents who have used physical discipline

now that I’ve got your attention here is the reason for that premise:

I'm not arguing pro- physical discipline I’m arguing pro-dialogue and grace for people.

most people repeat what they know or just don’t know better, villainizing the PEOPLE instead of explaining the harm behind the ACTIONS eliminates the ability to have civil and open honest and informative communication.

i grew up in a home that physically discipline was not only the primary method used but almost exclusively. I do in fact have some trauma from that but my parents never had an INTENTION to be abusive and I would not consider them to have been “abusive” because they were just copying their parents. However with this culture being so fast to condemn everything I could never have an open and honest conversation with them because to do so would basically be to look my mother, (who tried her best and already struggles with intense guilt and shame) in the eye and compare her to an ACTUAL abuser, which is in fact false and wrong.
I think it also doesn’t allow people who are wanting to be better parents to feel safe to ask for help I think. Hence my thesis: We should stop villainizing parents who use physical discipline, (and open honest dialogue about the potential harm).
