i stopped trying to have a perfect morning and just protected the first 3 minutes
for a long time i thought the reason my mornings kept collapsing was that i lacked discipline. every night i would design this calm, optimized routine for the next day, water, stretch, journal, vitamins, reading, no phone. then i'd wake up half asleep, see the whole thing in my head, and instantly want to skip all of it.
what finally worked was making the beginning almost too small to fail. before bed i put a glass of water on the counter, left the blinds cracked, and put my hoodie over the chair by the door. when i woke up, the only job was stand up, drink the water, open the blinds. that was it. no inner speech about becoming a better person before 7 am.
weirdly, once the first 3 minutes stopped feeling heavy, the rest of the morning got easier too. not perfect, just easier. i still miss days, but now missing one morning doesn't turn into "guess i'm broken" for the rest of the week. has anyone else noticed that the beginning of a habit matters way more than the full routine?
