Bedtime AI

Tips And Tricks

Hi Dad bros. I know AI is polarizing, and as a high school teacher it is pretty rough out there with some kids having it do their thinking for them. But I can say AI is great at some things, and one of those things is making bedtime stories from given details. And yes, sometimes I make up the stories myself, and yes, I also read to them every day. Part of our bedtime routine, some nights, is for me to ask my older kids (almost 4 and almost 6) for 1 or 2 details each to use in a story. I ask AI to write a bedtime story that is a given length for my target audience, and it does a great job. We go through 20+ books per week from the library, and I read a lot for fun, so I have a decent knowledge base. I can tell you most of the stories it comes up with are great and wholesome. You can also add a theme, like today I added helping because we had been talking about helping.

AI isn’t a magic bullet, but it can be a good bedtime tool. As a side note, when you ask AI to answer a question what you’re really asking is “what does an answer to this question look like?” And sometimes it gets it right, sometimes it doesn’t. But as a language learning model, it has a ton of children’s stories to pull from and it does a good job arranging them, and showing you what a bedtime story looks like.
