How old were you when you realized you are ugly? How did the realization feel? Was it traumatic?

I’ll tell you my story. It was late September 1990. I was seven years old at the time. My mom got a hold of my studio class photos taken when the school year started. I was there when she saw first saw them. She had a look of disappointment in her face as she saw how I ugly I was in the photos. I was shocked too, realizing there and then I did not luck out in the looks department at all. It was a traumatizing experience. I knew there and then I will be held back from many positive things in life. I knew I would be an outcast, so to speak. I felt an intense sadness in that moment. It still sends shivers down my spine whenever I think about the moment of realization.

Realizing you are ugly is an important moment, nonetheless. It’s a sad one, but one we should always remember, I reckon. It’s a moment of truth, and it is an entryway where we can live closer to truth than fantasy.
