Creating space between peg lateral and canine for bonding or veneer… Can anybody share their experience?

My orthodontist wants to create a gap between my peg lateral and the canine next to it and recommends getting bonding or veneers once that gap has been created. In full transparency, I’m nervous about creating that gap because I don’t mind my peg lateral tooth, but he highly recommends it in order to address my crossbite issue. Can anybody share their experience with bonding on their peg laterals? Did you go through with it? Do you recommend or regret it? About how long did it take for you?
