allergic to my crochet hooks :(

I’ve had this cheap set of metal crochet hooks for 4 years now - they’ve worked just fine tbh.

the problem is my skin - I’ve had these tiny itchy blisters (dyshidrotic eczema apparently) on the sides of some of my fingers and my thumb of my right hand for over a year. I work in healthcare so I thought it was the hand sanitizer or maybe the sani-wipes, but I usually use gloves with those. I’ve tried so many things to calm it down but it’s just gotten worse over the last year. i have eczema and a known nickel allergy severe enough that I had to get rid of an Apple Watch because of the rash years ago. it didn’t click that it was the crochet hooks and my nickel allergy until watching an instagram reel the other day about someone being allergic to her steel knitting needles (steel is much more likely to contain nickel than aluminum btw).

coincidentally, I’ve been using a bamboo hook for my current project for the last couple months and while the rash isn’t getting better it isn’t getting worse for the first time in a year! tbh I like bamboo hooks better but I only have three sizes in them - guess it’s an excuse to buy more!

anyone else here allergic to their crochet hooks? did you find a way to use them still? or should I get rid of them?
