Hi friends,

I’m looking for any insight and advice about what’s going on with my hair.

In the photos my hair is freshly washed and about 70% dry. The roots of my hair are dry and soft, my midsection is still a bit wet, and ends mostly dry and crunchy.

As of late, anytime I wash my hair my ends dry very crispy, crunchy, stiff, and stringy. Almost as if there is a gel cast on my hair! When my hair is wet the ends feel very slimy and mushy. I thought I was dealing with product build up but was confused as I don’t use much product at all. I only use a leave in conditioner on my hair after showering. Occasionally I’ll use an air dry cream but that is very infrequent. I have tried a clarifying shampoo to remove this possible buildup. Even after focusing it on my ends nothing changed. The ends still felt slimy when wet. I then tried using a bit of a heavier conditioner in the shower thinking my hair may be extra dry. That also did nothing. I have noticed quite a bit of breakage from this issue and am desperate to try to remedy it before resorting to chopping my hair extra short.

For context, I box dye my hair once a month and have been doing so for a couple years. I also recently tried using the ogx bond protein repair on my hair. I wash my hair about 3 times a week and would use the treatment after washing. I did this for maybe a week and a half before I began to worry it wasn’t good for my hair and stopped. I haven’t used this treatment for a month now.

I’m unsure if any of that added info is helpful in diagnosing my issue but I don’t want to leave anything out!

What could be going on with my hair and how do I fix it?? Any help is appreciated <3

How to fix crunchy ends on air dried wavy hair?!
