Father Figure Question

Discussion :taythink:

I have been seeing a lot of people obsessed with the song Father Figure - using lyrics from the song as hashtags, tattoos, etc. "Protect the Family" being most commonly used. I like the song, I like the collab with George Michael. But I feel like I'm missing something because to me the song is about how predatory show business can be, how people who you think you can trust can end up harming you. Example Swift and the long fight for her masters. In the track by track she uses protege & mentor but I don't feel like my interpretation is that far off from what Taylor herself says about the song. The song is NOT describing a nice person. IMO it is a warning about the industry - Hollywood & Music can be deceiving. The song has always reminded me of stories from the Me Too movement or stories about actresses in the 1950's like Marilyn Monroe that had to do a lot more than they likely wanted to to make a deal with Hollywood Executives.

What am I missing? Why does it seem like so many people love this song to the point of getting it tattooed on them when the song is about someone who is predatory? It seems equal to having Big Machine or Spencer tattooed on you. Am I taking the song too literal? Help me understand.
