Top Surgery Consult Is Tomorrow and I'm Feeling Slightly Concerned
As title says, I made the recent decision to try and get top surgery again.
I've made several attempts in the past to take this step (due to certain variables in my life, including where I live, this is the only medical transition step that I'm able to take, so its a fairly big deal for me). Unfortunately, finances haven't been on my side, so those attempts all fell through.
I'm at a point where, with the help of certain resources like Care Credit, surgery has become a more viable option. Tomorrow afternoon, I have a phone consult with Dr Charles Garramone. I sat down an hour ago to sort out my end of things, mostly compiling a finalized list of all of my and my mother's questions (she's volunteered to help care for me post-surgery).
The thing is (and you all can 100% call me out for being oblivious) it never really occurred to me until I started more seriously researching and looking at top surgery result photos that things like weight could be a factor for concern here. And neither of the two surgeons I've consulted with in the past had brought it up, either, so I have quite literally never thought about it. I'm about 5'8 and my weight has been fluctuating between 285 to 290 in the last year.
If we're going by BMI standards, I'm considered obese. I have (believe it or not) been attempting to lose weight for the past couple of years, but I don't seem to really be budging. I even had a nurse once try to prescribe me medications that didn't seem to touch it (but honestly, I think she just gave me a really shit combo of meds that just balanced each other out).
I understand that it is what is, if he can't do it then I'm SOL. It's not like I can drop the necessary amount of weight overnight, and even if he schedules me and tells me to drop 'x' pounds by 'y' date, I've got literally no guarantees that it will happen.
I suppose more than anything I just want to know if I'm potentially walking into a heartbreak situation. I'd rather be braced for the worst and maybe get pleasantly surprised than to go in all starry eyed and get my hopes dashed within five minutes of the call.
