Is 27 a good time to jump in or a beginner?

Long time MLB the show player and baseball lover and wanting to dive deep into OOTP, but pretty daunted. Is the latest edition a good version to jump into? Realistically I wouldn't want to be purchasing this every year like MLB the Show, would like to find one good version and stick with it.
