Refusing to put a baby in a sedan

Babyproofing/Safety

Fiancee and I are looking at starting a family in the near future and were discussing cars bc she’s about due for a new one. I have a sedan and she is looking at getting an suv as the ‘mom car.’ I think it would be good, especially going anywhere further than like half an hour (basically in town).

We hit a hitch and I was kinda baffled. She is saying she wouldn’t let our baby or toddler sit in the sedan. I know suvs are generally safer (not black and white ik), and would rather her be in the suv with the little one. Just straight up refusing for the baby to ride in the back confused me. It’s not preferable, but I found it overkill. Kinda kneecapping yourself

I guess what I’m trying to ask is if I’m the only one with that opinion here? Maybe I’m uninformed, but with the right precautions (car seat, seatbelt, etc.) it never seemed like I would be putting my kin a death trap
