PSA - keeping checking until you find the nest & don't forget to look up high

Last year I found beetles in every room of my house. It was a nightmare to deal with and I only ever found a few larva at a time. I knew where the hotspots were but I never found a traditional nest.

All winter I have done periodic checks - haven't found anything and then I saw a few shed skins two weeks ago that renewed my efforts to clean because I didn't want to wait until the peak season in May and relive it.

It occurred to me that I have never really gotten up high up - above the fridge and tops of the counters. To my absolute horror I found it - all along there was a huge nest of them above my refrigerator. We had been throwing cardboard bags up there from groceries to reuse all year long and never checked there. There was a brown bag of leftover dog treats toward he back feeding them. I found dozens of them in pupa stage - they looked like brown grains of rice. If I hadn't had found this my mental health would have tanked again when they would have matured in a few weeks. I know there is likely still some, and I have always heard you're not done unless you find the source. This nagged at me all year because they were so spread out. My basement is another story but at least now I feel like I have figured out a huge piece of the puzzle on the top two floors.

Encouraging you all to check above your cabinets, the top of closets, and the refrigerator. The adults fly and the gross little larva can climb.
