What if your “sore throat” isn’t an infection but EDS affecting your voice—have you ever lost your voice or had pain without being sick? Little known EDS symptom...aphonia?
I'm not sure if this would be considered a low-quality post, but I didn't realize that the Facebook group for EDS or Facebook in general it was blocked as a domain for this subreddit and I was curious if anyone else saw the post about how EDS patients have more common symptoms of like the voice loss and the muscles in the voice or the muscles in your throat getting weaker over time and causing voice changes or frequent loss voices without actually being sick at either multiple times or numerous times I just can't post the actual video because of the whole domain role but it seems sort of interesting in terms of any of you guys actually do deal with this on regular basis and it has it actually been identified or diagnosed as the symptom that they're describing or the condition they're describing with the muscle weakness in the voice and as a sub note or connection to that has that been linked to your EDS or just been treated in isolation of it or without even considering it in the first place as potentially being related?
I found this information more than a little interesting, just because I often feel like I sound hoarse; even when I'm not sick or need to clear my throat. It'll be even when I don't have any sinus congestion, and I figured it's just you know how my voice is sometimes & maybe because I use a lot of medical marijuana and potential xyz impacts of mj smoking/ combustion & all the randomized symptoms that people attribute to it.
not saying that many of them or all of them aren't true some potential situations are in certain conditions and cases I just think people also over blow a lot of the MJ side effects in a way that a lot of people can under account the MJ side effects and I'm more of one of the people that will underplay it just from my own personal experiences but I know that everybody's different so I'll leave it at that I just think if we are going to look at medication side effects the ones from marijuana are some of this easiest and quickest ones to be resolved then things that you're ingesting or taking on a long-term basis like actual neurotransmitter and base medications or any other types of meds that I'm not even going to mention since both EDS and marijuana impact all or at least most of our bodies in some fashion or another it'd be impossible to try to list them and I'm definitely not going to try here.
but whatever excuse to cause my voice to not sound right but the irony is when I do finally clear my voice and I can get rid of that like hoarseness if I have any and I go out of my way to speak fully like with a stronger voice it does sound completely different than just my relaxed voice and I don't mean just the comparison between like a loud voice versus soft voice but that hoarseness is consistent like all the time if I'm not actively speaking like with my full throat or full voice whereas if I'm just speaking in any type of relax manner it's always horse or at least what I consider horse....
But this post actually has me wondering if that's actually more of a loss of muscle conditioning than anything else or not.
I mean I don't know but there's a lot of EDS symptoms of that we only find out about once it's either too late or it's been impacting us for years and years and years we're decades like our own diagnosis is only end up coming out after a decade or massive amounts of symptoms and doctors that barely even know what it is so I definitely figured that if this was potentially relevant to me and something that I might find helpful then I thought you guys might find this post on Facebook's EDS group helpful as well. Even though I'm a group member I don't really participate much there I focus more on the Reddit EDS and heds subreddits along with The Chronic pain and insomnia subreddits.
What do you guys know? What do you guys think? Have you guys heard of or seen this in the real world before or had any experience with this as an EDS patient or just as a patient in general whether it was before or after your EDS diagnosis itself?
definitely has me sort of curious how common it actually ends up being for people whether they realize it's related to the Eds or not it's still definitely something that if common in an EDS population or at least for people that have to sing or give presentations or give speeches and the like. even for those of us that don't consider that part of our standard roles at work we have budget meetings or you have staff meetings and you're doing this on a monthly or biweekly or whatever type of schedule if you're an EDS patient and this is an actual condition and that's impacting your voice you might not realize it they might not even know that is happening or notice it but your peers may hear the difference or notice the difference in your voice and just assume it's maybe your voice is you know I'm tired from presenting or you're stressed out or I don't know whatever you know everyone's different and everyone is different causes and you know lifestyle choices and patterns but still seems like an interesting little tidbit for a condition that has millions and millions of freaking little symptom and treatment type information.
