engineering at state school or undecided-ish at lac
i was admitted to uw madison for chemical engineering, but also really love the idea of being at an lac (both academically and socially). i want to ultimately go to med school (but still not very sure/feeling strongly about it) and applied to uw mad for engineering thinking it would provide me hard skills for employment if i can’t get in. however, i had wanted to major in something in the social science field before freaking out about future financial stability and pivoting all my ecs and “gaslighting” myself i like stem more. even now, i still don’t really know what i like or want to do in the future. my stepfather keeps saying i can technically be both anywhere, but i looked at the requirements for chem eng at uw madison, and it’s so stacked that i fear i might just barely finish my degree😭
of my top 2 choices for lacs, 1 has a partnership with dartmouth for ba be (but not guaranteed), and one has a soon-to-be accredited big engineering major. i really like the intimate environment where everyone seems to know each other, small class sizes, and the idea of liberal arts, as well as want to explore & learn a lot of different things in college, but uw mad seems like a safer pathway if i end up still pursuing engineering.
should i go to uw and explore fun classes through electives, or go to an lac and feel a little unstable about my future but might ultimately end up in a major/field i will actually like?
