Teeth

It was a small medical trial intended to cure a condition I didn’t even notice. But the pay was good and I just had to go for a check up once every week on my way back from work. I barely felt the first injection. The side effects in that week was barely an inconvenience.

After the second injection I started feeling these bumps under my skin. The doctor at the research centre said it was just a pimple break out. I could hear a researcher in the other room saying they shouldn’t derail the data because of a simple pimple break out.

I went home with relief knowing it was just pimples. By dinner time the bumps have gotten more painful and numerous.

I woke up in the middle of the night sweating, unbearable pain all over my body. I could feel the bumps, the pain, the itchiness from every part of my body. The worst pain came from inside my eye lids, my nose and the back of my throat. I could barely breathe and I never felt so alone in my apartment. I pushed through the fear to look for my phone in the darkness, the panic only making it harder to find.

When I the lock screen barely illuminated surrounding my heart jump in fright. My hand was covered in blood. So were my sheets. I turned on the torch, only to notice teeth pushing through the bumps of my skin. The skin on my hands were ripped through as teeth started pushing through them at a visible pace. A scream, I never thought possible came out of me. The scream died down to a wheeze as I felt the teeth pierce through the back of my throat. Closing my airway and spreading to my tongue. I clutched my throat gasping for air. My hands breaking the already broken skin on my neck. I tried to reach for my phone but the teeth covered my vision as they penetrated my eyes pushing the dim room to complete darkness. I was praying for death as the unbearable pain deepened in so much that barely a thought registered.

Only one thought filled my mind as I lost consciousness.

Will I just be a statistic to an experiment.
