boyfriend’s employer does not give him cpf despite full time position

hi all, my boyfriend is a sports coach under a private sports academy (not MOE or sports school). he joined the company mid last year as a full time coach. when he was joining, his boss mentioned that cpf will only be given later on. well, it has been one year and there hasn’t been any cpf given. my boyfriend’s pay did increase so maybe the boss include cpf in salary but never say??

there also isn’t a written contract. i have had conversations with boyfriend to just ask but he just does not see the big deal because his salary is not bad. idk is it not a big deal? is this normal for private coaches or sports academies?
