Ceiling Mod to Add Height / New to this group

Has anyone ever worked with an engineer to create a slightly higher ceiling in the hitting zone by modifying this style of truss. It certainly seems like the vertical 2 by 4 could be shortened, and re-braced and the load bearing would not suffer significantly. This assumes I'd only need about a 6 foot by 6-foot square area of modification, maybe less. Almost like a trayed ceiling in a master bedroom. I promise I tried looking through the posted resources. Thank you in advance -- I suspect I'll have more questions.
