MX Master 4 - Downgrade?
I've loved my MX Master 3s for a long time and after wearing out the left click button I was excited that my wife told me to buy another one. I was excited to see the new the MX Master 4 in store, and I bought it before reading any reviews. Admittedly I haven't really read any still, but I'm curious if I'm in the minority in thinking that it is a downgrade from the MX Master 3s?
1.) It is heavy!
I've never noticed the weight of a mouse before, but after about 4 weeks of having the new mouse I finally had to look up the weight, because I noticed that my hand hurt. Not only does the fit feel...off, but it feels so heavy. After a full day of work I notice that my hand feels tired. I'm not sure if the fit is different, but it definitely feels different in my hand as well compared to the MX Master 3s.
2.) The thumb grip is...slimy?
There is something off with the thumb grip/button. It makes me feel like my thumb is sweaty. I'm constantly checking if something is on my thumb or if my thumb is sweaty because the button feels slippery. I cannot stand the texture of the new thumb button.
3.) The new thumb button feels like a waste
The first time I connected the mouse and hit the thumb button I loved the feel of the haptic feedback but was repulsed by the fact that there was any mention of AI on my screen. I went through the settings to remap the thumb button, but honestly, I don't see a benefit between essentially having two different old style thumb buttons. Maybe I'm missing something?
Sure, I guess I can map multiple actions to my thumb button, but I guess I never really saw a need for that. I'm sure others do. The old style thumb button is not in a comfortable location for me, I have small sausage fingers for a guy, but I find the location of the third side button uncomfortable so I remapped my old bindings to the new thumb button and now don't know what to do with the third side button.
Overall I'm pretty disappointed with the MX Master 4. Between the weight, the texture, and the functionality, I don't honestly wish I had bought another MX Master 3s. Unfortunately I'm past my return window otherwise I would absolutely buy another MX Master 3s to replace my old one. It feels so wasteful to buy another mouse when this one works, but I cannot stand this thing.
