i need help, i think its spreading

hi im 36 year old male whos been clean my entire life until 3 weeks ago when i was smoking with someone.... and yeah. i contracted hsv-1 while smoking with them. it started as small cluster of blisters that later popped while i was eating subway. i applied Abreva on it. but now the abreva is caking up and cracking making it very hard to keep clean. because i'm afraid of spreading it, i'm unsure of how to wash the cold sore. the first time i tried, i think i patted a little too hard and the scab came off and it was pussing really bad.

right now when i look at my lip, i swear i see it sprading to the other side because im unable to clean it or dont know how as im afraid to spread it, but now it seems its happening. i saw a small swellling on the other side, no cluster of blister, but some unsual swelling. i washed with mild soap and pat dry on the other side, then i applied some abreva on the part i thought it might be spreading to, using a q tip. immediately after applying abreva on the new area it felt warm, is that an indication that yes my hsv-1 has slightly spread to the other side?

and what are the best ways to keep clean? i'm new to this so im sorry if i sound dumb. im very paranoid about anything i touch on my face. but now im even more paranoid as it seems the virus might be spreading. they said to keep my mouth area dry so to not spread the virus, but keeping it so dry my lips looks like they developed a crusty hard layer that even vaseline wont soften. what do i do i'm so scared and nervous it will just keep spreading and never heal because i dont know how to keep it clean.
