Surgery coming up soon
I am so scared. I have never had surgery before, and apparently this is one of the most painful ones?? Well, actually, I had my tongue clipped as a baby, but obviously I don’t remember that.
As much as I’m extremely anxious for the pain that follows during recovery, I am actually more anxious about being under anesthesia. What if it’s not enough and I wake up or feel EVERYTHING during surgery. I am so scared, you have no idea.
I’m 19, so my take from everything I’ve read about this surgery is that it’ll be longer than a small child’s recovery. Any tips? I’ve read about staying hydrated constantly, even when you’re not thirsty. How do you manage to do that when it feels like glass apparently?? And also humidifiers. I do not have one of these. I’ve read people use ice packs on the neck/jaw area? Has anyone done this and felt as if it helped?
The pain meds? I can’t swallow pills. I’m afraid I’ll choke and die. Apparently ibuprofen is a no go in my surgery instructions, so I guess I’ll be relying on Tylenol.
My surgery is April 17th. I’m so scared. Again, any advice, words of encouragement/wisdom, would be greatly appreciated.
