Goldenear BRX vs B&W 606 S3

Discussion

I recently had a chance to listen to both the Goldenear BRX and the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 bookshelf speakers. I really liked both. I think I like the 606s ever so slightly better but could definitely live with the BRXs. I love the large soundstage of the BRXs but I like the forward detail I get listening to the 606 S3s. I should note that I have an SVS sub so I’m not as concerned with the low end as much as I am with the midrange and high end.

Here’s my predicament. My current housing situation offers a terrible listening environment that requires the speakers to basically be placed up against a wall. This has me leaning toward the BRXs since the 606S3s are rear ported.

I should note that the local Goldenear dealer allowed me to take the BRXs home with me to try out for the next week. That’s an awesome benefit that I wasn’t expecting. The BRXs are demo speakers from his showroom. They are in excellent condition and come with the full 5 year warranty. He’s offered them to me for $750 for the pair.

The B&W 606 S3s would come from a different shop. I am unable to test these out at home. These speakers would come brand new with full warranty. This shop offered them to me for $650 for the pair.

Any thoughts?
