$HUM — the street is modeling medicare advantage like it's a growth story. it's not.

Humana trades like a managed care compounder, but when you pull back the curtain the story looks a lot more fragile than the bulls want to admit.

The core problem: this company is structurally tethered to Medicare/Medicaid, and the Star ratings system — which drives billions in bonus payments — is genuinely volatile year to year. One bad Star cycle and margins crater. That's not a growth business, that's a coin flip with a nice P&L wrapper.

What really caught my eye is the non-GAAP adjustments. Management has been increasingly aggressive about backing out costs that look pretty… recurring to me. When your "one-time" items show up every quarter, at some point you just call them expenses.

Price target: $157. The current valuation assumes a benign Medicare Advantage regulatory environment and stable Star bonuses. Neither of those is a safe assumption heading into 2027.

SHORT bias here — I think the market is giving Humana credit for earnings quality it doesn't actually have.

For anyone with a bull case on managed care right now — what am I missing? Is there a Star ratings stabilization argument that actually holds up under the new CMS methodology?
