Watch prices across 7 platforms [chrono24, reddit, ebay, grailzee and more]— where you're actually getting deals

Been comparing prices across Chrono24, Reddit (r/watchexchange), eBay, Watchfinder, Etsy, Catawiki, and Grailzee. Chronomarket gathered over 17,000 listings across all platforms, in last 6 weeks. Some of this genuinely surprised me.

TL;DR r/Watchexchange is cheap and it's not even close to others.

Consistently 15-30% below Chrono24 or Watchfinder for the same ref numbers, same condition tier:

  • Cartier Tank — ~$2,400 on r/watchexchange vs ~$3,100+ on Chrono24. 23% less. (~200+ listings compared)
  • Rolex Datejust 41 — ~$11,300 on Reddit vs ~$13,500 on the big platforms. 16% gap.
  • IWC Pilot — $5,025 on Reddit, $6,323 on Chrono24. 15% difference.

- etc...

Watchfinder is the most expensive across the board (median $6,375) — makes sense, proper retailer with warranties and authentication. Chrono24 sits around ~$4,900 median. Reddit at $3,800. The spread holds even when you control for the same 15 most popular models across platforms.

Volume-wise Chrono24 is still king — 9,300+ listings (~53% of everything). Reddit second at ~3,000 listings (~17%), eBay at ~2,600 (15%). [data from last 6 weeks]

So what does this mean practically:

For buyers willing to do a bit more due diligence (checking references, asking for more pics, etc.) — Reddit is where the real value is. The savings on popular models are significant and consistent, not just one-off deals.

The premium on Chrono24/Watchfinder is basically the price of buyer protection and easy returns. Whether that's worth 15-30% more is up to you.

eBay prices are all over the place. Etsy and Grailzee skew lower-end/vintage so harder to compare directly, but worth a look in that segment. Although Etsy is the most shady one here, lot of fakes there.

Curious if this matches your experience? Anyone feel like the premium platforms are worth the markup, or is the savings on Reddit too good to pass up?
