How to funds to wallet/Appel cash.

So I’m trying to add some emergency funds in case I need them, or I need to send someone some cash. I’ve downloaded the wallet app and added my debit card. But I still can’t add money to Apple Cash, it just says $0. Thansk I’ve never used the app before and any “help or how to fix” I’ve tried looking for doesn’t work.
