My experience with SE2 Survival in VS2.2
I'm currently on my second playthrough of Survival and would like to share my experiences. Of course, I can only describe the current state of the game. In my first playthrough, I spent a long time working with the available ships and bases because there was no reason to create anything of my own. Now, with the mechanical blocks in the game, I'm much more motivated to experiment with them and integrate them into my own ships (I'm not a good designer and always have to give my designs certain features around which design elements then form). Initially, I wanted to use a ship I loved from SE1 with the grid exporter (to save myself the design work), but after several attempts, I had no success. Therefore, I used the ship as inspiration and redesigned it in SE2 (creative mode), significantly reducing its size. In my first playthrough, towards the end, I built a large (ugly) miner, but unfortunately, I didn't use it much. In my second playthrough, I wanted my own ship as early as possible and was actually able to use it starting with the mission involving collecting cargo crates. I noticed that you can already build blocks with blueprints that you haven't unlocked yet according to the progression system (in my case, the 2.5m hydro thrusters). Shhh, don't tell Keen.
I haven't been able to craft some parts myself yet, which is why I've been actively using the trading system. And I have to say, it's rudimentary, but it's fun. The trader block basically takes anything, and I don't necessarily have to acquire valuable resources to make money. But that money disappears quickly.
I haven't ventured too far into the random signals yet, but I've visited a few and can say that they do contain valuable loot. At first, I was skeptical. You can craft everything yourself eventually, so why loot? But Gatling ammo, in particular, is expensive at the beginning and therefore a welcome find in loot boxes (I also already have a datapad).
A few things have been dampening my enjoyment of the game lately.
The frequently reported bug with the projections not being where they should be (though there are workarounds).
I also encountered a bug where I suddenly lost access to my ship. I couldn't get into the cockpit or access cargo or panels. In most cases, I just had to leave it for the day.
One last strange behavior I noticed. My ship has a small hangar for a small miner and a hangar door. When I was cruising towards a distant destination, the ship would start moving on its own after a short time and spin wildly. I identified the miner in the hangar as the cause, even though I deactivated all of its engines and gyroscopes. The problem didn't occur without the miner in the hangar. I still need to test whether it only happens when the miner is full or all the time.
In summary, I can say that I'm already enjoying fighting my way through the Almagest system with my own ship. Eventually, I'll try to reach Delfos. Just for fun.
