The most underrated part of the Iran ceasefire isn't the ceasefire — it's that Pakistan brokered it
Everyone is talking about Trump and Iran this morning. Nobody is talking about what this means for Pakistan's position in global diplomacy.
Pakistan's PM Shehbaz Sharif has now invited both US and Iranian delegations to Islamabad on April 10 for further negotiations toward a permanent agreement.
Think about that. Islamabad — not Geneva, not Doha, not Washington — is hosting the talks that could end a 6-week war involving the world's largest military.
Iran proposed a 10-point peace plan which Trump called a "workable basis on which to negotiate."
Pakistan just inserted itself as an indispensable mediator between the US and Iran. That has enormous implications for the region — South Asia, the Gulf, and India's foreign policy calculus.
Is anyone else thinking about what this means beyond just the ceasefire itself?
