What's etiquette making friends/connecting on games?

Alright typical socially awkward guy (32) here. Not awful but I can be meeting new people in person. I'm working through a lot of this stuff - long story for another time :)

Recently got a little PC and been gaming, I already have a mic/headphones for my set up so plugged them in and talking a little but I'm a bit anxious like feel pressure almost to speak or something lol

Would be cool to meet some gamer friends whilst playing. I'm not sure how it works as my last console was Xbox 360 and it was all compact in there. Now I have Steam, Epic Games, EA, whatever else I have so far... So do you just add everyone on separate ones?

Also I'm sure these questions might be odd but how do you even speak? Just chill I assume? Not going in like hey whats your name where you from?
