F30 shuts off at half tank

I've got a 3 series F30 with N20, when my fuel gauge gets to about half the car just shuts off like it's run out of gas if I add more gas runs fine but every time it gets to half it just dies. What am I looking at here? Faulty fuel pump or faulty level sensor?
