Why might a girl act like this in this situation?

So this goes back to 2022 when we were both in 11th. We were from the same school earlier, but after 10th I joined a junior college and she joined a coaching institute. From the beginning, I had told her that I liked her. We talked on Instagram for about 6 months before meeting in person.

July, we finally met at a café around 6 PM and talked till 9 PM. I’m a shy person and I’m also scared of getting rejected, so I didn’t talk very confidently, but the meeting went fine. That same night while chatting, she said, “Now I can imagine you while talking to you.” Then later she said she wanted to get into a relationship — doing things like bunking classes, taking cute photos together, etc. She also mentioned that she had asked her best friend and got “approval” to be in a relationship.

At that time, I said something stupid like: “You want to get into a relationship but I’m the one feeling hurt.” She replied, “Let me know once you know.” I didn’t understand and asked what she meant, but she said “nothing.”

After 1–2 months, she asked me, “Didn’t you like me?” I said I did. Then she asked why I never asked her to meet again. I gave a silly excuse that I was busy with college.

Then in December, one night she texted: “Thank you [my name] for everything. You’re the best soul I’ve ever met, but I don’t know if I’ll ever feel the same way you feel for me.”

She saw my message and didn’t reply for about 2 hours. Later she said she had fallen asleep, which is why she didn’t reply earlier. Then she responded: “Yes, I’m completely fine. Don’t worry. I understand your concern, nothing to worry.”

We talked a few more times after that, then I deactivated Instagram for studies.

1. Did she ever like me?

2. Was that story about me?

3. Should I take any step now?

4. Or should I just let it go?
