Clinical Scientist to Biotech

I’m an ASCP & NYS certified Clinical Lab Scientist with 2 years of bench experience. I’ve worked in Chemistry and Microbiology so far and have worked with a few different instruments from companies like, Siemens, Roche, Cepheid, Becton Dickinson & Biomerieux, just to name a few.

I’m considering an MBA focused in Pharmaceutical Management, strategically targeting Rutgers Business School’s Program because I live in NJ. I also noticed that the program is sponsored by a few pharmaceutical /biotech companies based in NJ. Ideally I would like to break into a PM role at biotech company but I’m wondering if this is even possible given my background.

Or am I missing a few steps in between.

I will have 3 YOE by the time I apply for the MBA program. I plan to quit my job and go full time, since that would allow me to take advantage of internships.

Is this a smart leap? What other paths would you suggest given my background. I have a decent scientific foundation in clinical hematology, immunology, microbiology and chemistry due to my BS in Clinical lab Science and work experience.

In my role I make a little over $100k a year. So I’m not looking to go below that.

I’m very interested in financial and workflow optimization and would love to mesh my scientific background with finances.

Any advice? Is the MBA a good idea? Could I eventually break into a PM role? Is there a more fitting role?
