Oil light on 22 Alfa stelvio 2.0T

Maintenance

Hello. I bought a 22 stelvio 2.0t about a month and a half ago. The water pump started leaking a week after I bought it. The dealer I bought it from fixed it free of charge, but had it for almost a month. Now, it’s been good since I got it back 3 weeks ago. But last Friday, I got home from work and noticed my red oil light was on, signifying low oil. So I just assumed I should change the oil as I didn’t know the last time it was done since the service interval is shut off. (Oil shows 0/0 miles) so I changed the oil, drain plug was just tight enough so it wouldn’t leak, and I drained nearly 7 quarts of oil out of this motor. It’s 5.5q capacity. Now, I put in 5.5 QTs, and my digital reading for the oil level shows that it’s over the maximum amount. Yes, I drained the oil, not the transmission. No, there was no water in the oil. It looked like your standard used oil. I called an Alfa service center 350 miles from me as all the ones near me were closed, and the fella said even with the red oil light, I need to have an Alfa dealer reset it. Thing is, it’s not the oil change interval going off, it’s the actual oil light. So is he right? Or was he thinking about the interval light? I’ve sat there with the engine idling for 5 mins several times to get an update oil reading, and it just won’t change. I know for a fact I put it 5.5 QTs. MAYBE 5.6 QTs, but I’d assume that wouldn’t set the oil light off for an exceeded oil level. The engine sounds fine, so I’m not real worried that damage was done from the overfill. But, I don’t know. I was a Mopar mechanic, never messed with alfas except oil changes when they came in, but that was 5 years ago. And advice would be appreciated.
