How bad are the decks in complete boards? Going back to skateboarding at [34YO]

I'm back to skateboarding at 34 yo, after more than 10 years off. It's crazy how the muscle memory works, landing the first kickflip on the second day felt so awesome.

I bought a Globe complete and I didn't expect much from it, but I thought it would be a good starting point that I upgraded with harder bushings straight away, and will replace the deck for something better whenever it breaks or whatever. I already love the feeling of just being skateboarding again–even hurting myself is kind of refreshing after so long of being safe and rather static – office work, gym, running etc.

But here's what keeps me up at night. Why does this Globe deck get worn out so much? Almost every time it hits a ledge or coping on a side, it gets a new dent. The graphic also doesn't look like it would last for long (shame, because it's actually really nice). Overall, it looks like it's made of super-soft (or fresh?) wood that deforms whenever it hits something, and it might not last even a few months at skateparks. I'm not even sure the tail/nose will keep its shape for too long.

I used to skate Element and Chocolate boards those 15-20 years ago, and I don't remember anything like that happening. I remember they were much stronger/harder (or I just didn't pay attention, but my boards lasted for a very long time for sure).

Soo – is it a thing for Globe completes specifically or has the quality of decks degraded over time? Am I making this up, and a deck hitting metal coping simply has to get a dent, or are regular decks from respected brands harder and always have been?
