Transforming a Lake Highlands kitchen by vaulting the ceiling and adding massive sliding doors. Thoughts on the natural light?

We’re currently in the middle of a pretty significant kitchen expansion in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas. The original space felt a bit cramped and dark, so the goal for this remodel was all about volume and light.

**What we've done so far:**

* **Raised the roof:** We vaulted the ceilings to add vertical space. It’s amazing how much bigger the footprint feels just by changing the ceiling height.
* **The "Indoor-Outdoor" transition:** We installed large sliding glass doors that open up directly to the pool area. In Texas, being able to open up the house like this is a game-changer for hosting.
* **Light-loading:** Added several skylights and larger windows to keep the space bright even on overcast days.

We are just finishing up framing and rough-ins. Looking forward to seeing the cabinetry and finishes go in next.

Would love to hear what you guys think about the layout or if you have any questions about the structural work involved in vaulting a ceiling like this!

It’s always a fun challenge working in these established Dallas neighborhoods. If you're in the area and planning a similar expansion, feel free to reach out or ask any questions about the permitting/structural process in Dallas!
