Ceasefire Breakdown: What It Actually Means For Markets

DD

So the 2 week ceasefire is official. Here's what I think matters and what doesn't based on the Vital Knowledge analysis that's been circulating.

The good news: Hormuz reopening takes the worst case oil scenario off the table. Consumer discretionary and housing names should bounce hard. Markets will celebrate no question.

The reality check: SPX was already struggling at 6900 to 7000 before the war even started so don't expect a straight rip back to highs. The stagflationary damage from 5 weeks of conflict is going to show up in earnings and economic data for months. The Fed is basically sidelined for the rest of the year and global central banks are leaning toward tightening not easing.

The trade: Energy and defense names that ran on the war are probably about to get hit with profit taking. The rotation into beaten down consumer names is the move but timing matters. Don't chase the gap in the morning.

What I'm doing: Watching the first couple hours of trading on link to see how the top performers I follow are repositioning. Are they selling energy into strength or holding? Are they actually buying consumer names or waiting for a pullback? That tells me more than any headline. Last time there was a major geopolitical shift like this the guys with the best track records on there were moving hours before the consensus caught up.

Hormuz risk premium isn't going away either. Iran showed they can shut it down whenever they want and that changes the math on commodities permanently. This ceasefire is a pause not a resolution.

Vital Knowledge nailed it calling this the Iraq I scenario. Enhanced US military presence for years containing Tehran. Better than a quagmire but far from peace.

Position accordingly and don't FOMO into tomorrow's open.
