ResearchKit: an open-source attempt at a better AI research-writing workflow
We built ResearchKit: an open-source attempt at a better AI research-writing workflow than the usual Overleaf + copy/paste setup
Most research writing still feels fragmented. A common workflow today looks something like this:
- write in Overleaf
- jump to OpenAI Prism or ChatGPT when you want help rewriting, brainstorming, or analyzing something
- go back to Overleaf and manually reconcile the edits, citations, and structure
That works, but it breaks context all the time. We built ResearchKit to explore a different model: keep the writing workflow inside Overleaf, but make the AI system project-aware.
What ResearchKit is
ResearchKit is an AI-assisted research writing environment built on top of Overleaf Community Edition.
The idea is simple:
- Overleaf is the IDE
- the LaTeX project is treated like a codebase
- the assistant works with project memory, file context, BibTeX, and patch-based edits instead of just responding to isolated prompts
