Is it better to learn cyber security online or in a classroom setting?

I don’t really prefer any training whether it’s online or offline and I honestly don’t have much hope in “placement support” claims from most programs.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of trainings talk big about placements, but when it comes down to it, there’s no real guarantee, no clear roadmap, and not much transparency about how they actually help you get hired. That’s where I felt a bit misled in the beginning.

If you’re getting into cyber security, I’d say don’t choose a course just because it promises a job. Instead, go for something that actually helps you build skills and gives you real-world exposure.

If you want, I can suggest a better approach look for training that focuses on:

  • Hands-on labs (not just theory)
  • Real-world projects (like basic SOC tasks, log analysis, alerts, etc.)
  • A structured path so you know what you’re learning and why
  • Some level of interview guidance (but not fake guarantees)

I’ve seen people (including myself) lean more toward platforms like Udemy, H2KInfosys and Coursera not because they promise jobs, but because you can actually learn at your own pace and build practical skills if you choose the right courses.

At the end of the day, cyber security is very skill-based. No training can “place” you directly. But if you focus on learning properly, practicing consistently, and understanding real scenarios, you’ll have a much better shot at cracking interviews.

That mindset shift made a bigger difference for me than any “placement support” ever did.
