I need opinions

im a prefect in my school and new to my role and i saw this person using their phone and we are not allowed to so i asked my best friend on her opinion she said we should tell a teacher as she is a senior and knows the rules so i told the teacher that i saw someone using their phone and my teacher talked to her i didnt know what happened but i told my other friend and he told everyone and now people are calling me a snitch even though im doing my duty as a prefect to help the school am in the wrong for doing mh job?
