CX-5 Key Fob Low (after new battery)

I've replaced the key fob for my '23 CX-5 twice in a week (in case the first battery was bad), and right now I still get: "battery low, hold the key close to the ignition". and the car also won't let me hit the button on the doors to unlock the car when the key is in my pocket.

I can use the key fob to unlock the car and open the trunk, but somehow the car itself is not detecting the fob. Anyone ever experienced this? Ideas?
