Why Did Kim Zolciak Lose Custody of Her Children?

Kim did not lose permanent custody of her four children with Kroy Biermann, but she did temporarily lose primary custody because she failed to attend court-ordered therapy sessions. In Georgia where Kim and Kroy live (and all US states), custody is awarded based on the "best interests of the child." The judge in their case ordered Kim to attend four parent therapy sessions and ordered the children to stay in Kroy's care while she completed them. However, Kim reportedly missed the sessions because she was out of the country filming for a new tv show.

Georgia law says judges can change custody when a parent’s actions show they may not be putting the child’s needs first. Failure to attend court-ordered therapy can be seen as the parent not meeting court requirements to support their children's mental and emotional health and shows that the parent may not be acting in the best interests of the children. So, the judge can temporarily change custody until the parent follows the order and does what they're supposed to. That's likely what happened in this case, and Kim will probably be able to regain primary custody once she completes the therapy and satisfies the judge.
