Anyone else had to hide their passion because of religion?
I want to make music but my environment is strongly against it (religion/family pressure)
I’m in a situation where I really enjoy making music (learning beats, writing, just creating in general), and it feels like something I genuinely want to pursue. The problem is the people around me are strongly against it because of religious beliefs.
For them, it’s not just a preference—they see music as something wrong, so even showing interest in it feels like I’m doing something bad in their eyes. Because of that, I don’t really have the freedom to explore it openly, and it’s starting to mess with my motivation and confidence.
Personally, I don’t feel like making music is wrong. I’m okay with it, but the constant pressure and disapproval makes it hard to keep going or even know how to move forward.
I’m not trying to disrespect my family or beliefs, but I also don’t want to completely give up something that feels important to me.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? How did you balance your passion with a restrictive environment? Did you keep it private, or find a way to be open about it?
Any advice would really help.
