Baby won’t nap

Sleep

I’m a FTM to a 17 day old baby. The first week, he did the typical eat -> poop -> sleep cycle all day and night. He was hardly ever awake outside of feeding and diaper.

Then week 2 came along and he started being more awake and wanting to stay awake longer. His eyes would be wide opened after a feed etc. I’d put him in his bassinet for nap as usual, but he’d stay awake and hangout happily until he fell asleep. Then slowly it progressed to not falling asleep and just staying awake until it’s time to eat/poop again.

It’s not that he wants to be held/only naps when held. He just won’t sleep. Even when held, bounced etc. I’ve tried just having him in my arms while I chill on the bed/couch in hope that he’d dose off but he’ll just be wide awake happy as a clam staring at whatever.

As a result, we’ll go 2 hours in a row without napping on most days. We have a strange routine of having this wide awake period in the morning, the a long (3 hour) midday nap, then maybe another awake period and then another nap in the early evening and then bed. With regular feedings in between.

Specifying that for that longer midday nap, I don’t do anything different. I feed him, burp change etc and place him in his bassinet and he’ll fall asleep. Basically he sleeps when HE wants.

He sleeps “fine” during the night (fine for a 2.5w old lol he wakes up to eat still) with a normal sleep wake cycle.

So Idk what to do… if I play/entertain him, I worry it’ll over stimulate him, but I also feel so guilty if he’s wide awake and I’m not playing/hanging out with him.

Has anyone else ever had a baby who just had longer awake periods early on and didn’t mind and turned out fine ?

The guides always say 60-90min awake window but my guy will be ready to party at the 90min mark.
