Is a big chandelier in a stairwell actually practical or just a dust magnet?
I was at a friend’s place last weekend and they had this huge glass fixture hanging in their stairwell that looked insane in person, and now I can’t stop thinking about doing something similar in my own entry + stairs area.
The space is about 18 ft high, kind of narrow, and right now it’s just a sad flush mount from the previous owners. I’ve been looking at high ceiling stuff, cluster pendants, even the bubble-style modern chandelier look. I keep going back and forth between “go big or go home” and “you’ll regret cleaning that thing in 6 months,” could be wrong though.
For people who’ve actually installed a big stairwell or foyer chandelier: how annoying is maintenance, cleaning, and bulb changes in real life? Any regrets about glare, shadows on the stairs, or it feeling too bright/dim? Also, would you pick warm white or neutral for a main entry like that?
Any fixture styles or brands you’d recommend (or avoid) before I do something dumb with my ceiling?
