"Upgrading" Visa Card to Summit

Likely a rhetorical question - as a 'classic' Mileage Plan Visa cardholder from several years ago - now known as Ascent, I believe? I've received no offers or marketing to 'upgrade' to the Summit card and I'm assuming there's no direct way to do that.

Likely best option is to wait for my next flight and apply using whatever in-flight bonus is being offered as a new cardholder, bank all those miles, and eventually cancel my old card. Other than the credit score hit (hard inquiry + drop in avg. age), seems like the best way if I'm seeking all the Summit benefits?
