What happened to Edmonton?

What happened to Edmonton? I moved here in 1996 and it was a quaint, vibrant city. I work downtown and feel like I’m walking with zombies in a dystopian time. Addicts openly using at LRT stops; garbage everywhere, entire blocks shuttered with cheap plywood, and the only people walking Jasper are screaming to themselves. I guess most people drive to work so they aren’t out in the open. Outside of the downtown it’s just cement, dirt, and more garbage. I don’t think people who live here actually care about their city. I feel like I’m in some developing country. No one appears to maintain their homes, their office buildings, or sidewalks. It’s criminal. I cannot wait to get out of this place and move back to small town (won’t say where for a reason) where people actually give a shit about their community and neighbours.
