The dreaded CVT leak - pump

My 2017 Subaru Forester XT has just been diagnosed with a CVT pump leak. Cost will be $2,250 through Subaru.

I said no as I wasn’t ready for that amount - and am buying fluid and will watch the fluid carefully while I consider what to do.

Vehicle has 133,000 miles with no other major issues . It only gets 20mpg though due to being a turbo. I love it but wonder if it is time to consider something that gets better mpg.

I am curious what experience others have had in this situation.
